Former Navy Sailor Pardoned By Trump Plans To Sue Obama, Comey

Kristian Saucier is a former Navy sailor who was prosecuted by the Obama Administration for taking photos of classified sections of the submarine where he served. He was later pardoned by President Trump and is now taking aim at former President Barack Obama, former FBI director James Comey and the Justice Department. He’s suing them for treating him differently than they treated Hillary Clinton after she left classified information at risk.

The former sailor served one year in prison after federal prosecutors argued he had endangered national security by taking photos of the submarine’s propulsion system and reactor compartment and then obstructed justice by destroying a laptop and camera. At the time, Saucier claimed he took the pictures as mementos for his family.

Saucier served as a machinist’s mate aboard the USS Alexandria from September 2007 to March 2012 and used the camera on his cellphone to take pictures of technical components of the sub’s nuclear propulsion system while it was docked at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut, Stars and Stripes said.

The former sailor was pardoned by Trump in March and plans to claim in his lawsuit that Obama and the other defendants treated him with unequal protection under the law. Saucier’s attorney, Ronald Daigle, told Fox News: “We’ll highlight the differences in the way Hillary Clinton was prosecuted and how my client was prosecuted. We’re seeking to cast a light on this to show that there’s a two-tier justice system and we want it to be corrected.” During his 2016 trial, Saucier’s lawyers invoked Clinton’s alleged mishandling of classified information, arguing that there was a double standard in how his violation was handled. Daigle said that a notice about the pending lawsuit was sent to the Department of Justice and others included in it in December. There is usually a six-month period that must lapse before the lawsuit actually is filed.

He referred to his 2016 trial in which his attorneys referenced Clinton’s handling of classified information and said, “They interpreted the law in my case to say it was criminal, but they didn’t prosecute Hillary Clinton. Hillary is still walking free. Two guys on my ship did the same thing and weren’t treated as criminals. We want them to correct the wrong.” He added, “My case was usually something handled by military courts. They used me as an example because of [the backlash over] Hillary Clinton.” So his actions were not unique to him as a sailor. However, he’s going to have problems because it was indeed a national security issue, but he’s right… it should have been handled in a military court and Clinton should be held accountable for her security breaches as well.

The FBI did not charge Clinton over her use of a private email server, though then-FBI Director Comey said her use of a private email server was “extremely careless.” It is now coming to light that the FBI covered for Clinton and that she is indeed guilty of multiple violations of the Espionage Act. Whether she will ever be charged is yet to be seen.

Trump tweeted in January: “Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aid, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols. She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember sailors pictures on submarine? Jail! Deep State Justice Dept must finally act? Also on Comey & others.”

“He has been recognized by his fellow servicemembers for his dedication, skills and patriotic spirit,” said White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in announcing his pardon in March. “While serving, he regularly mentored younger sailors and served as an instructor for new recruits. The sentencing judge found that Mr. Saucier’s offense stands in contrast to his commendable military service,” Sanders said.

While Saucier was in prison, he and his wife lost their home to foreclosure as well as having their cars repossessed. They lost everything over this. He said that after he was released from prison, he got a job collecting garbage. He concluded, “With a pardon there’s no magic wand that that gets waved and makes everything right. But I try to stay positive and look forward.” He praises the pardons that Trump has granted after he received his and takes exception at the criticism of Trump for granting the pardons. “The Obama administration singled out Dinesh for things most people don’t even get charged for,” Saucier said. “President Trump noticed that my career was exemplary and that I didn’t deserve what happened to me.
