Rachel Dolezal, Former NAACP Leader, Charged With Welfare Fraud

Rachel Dolezal, a former NAACP leader, is back in the news. This time for welfare fraud. Previously it was for pretending to be black when she was in fact, white.

Dolezal legally changed her name to Nkechi Diallo in 2016. She was just charged this week with theft by welfare fraud, perjury and false verification for public assistance, Spokane news station KHQ-TV reported.

Dolezal illegally received $8,747 in food assistance and $100 in child care assistance from August 2015 through November 2017, court documents said. An investigation started looking into Dolezal’s dealings in March of 2017 when a Washington state investigator received information that she had written a book. After reviewing her records, he found that she had been reporting her income as usually less than $500 per month, court documents said.

A subpoena was issued for her self-employment records, which included copies of her bank statements, showing Dolezal had deposited nearly $84,000 into her bank account between August 2015 and September 2017, without reporting the majority of it to the Department of Social and Health Services. The money came from her book/memoir, “In Full Color: Finding My Place in a Black and White World,” speaking engagements, soap making, doll making and the sale of her art, according to the case file. Dolezal did not report a “change of circumstance” to the state agency, saying she did a one-time job in October 2017 worth $20,000, court documents said. She sold fewer than 600 copies of her book.

Dolezal, 40, is a former civil rights activist with mental and identity issues. She told investigators she “fully disclosed her information” and declined to answer further questions, the documents said. Previously, she has stated that she grew up near Troy, Montana, with religious parents and that she began to change her perspective as a teenager, after her parents adopted four black children. She decided to become publicly black years later, after a heated divorce.

The people who outed Dolezal were her parents who in 2015 told reporters that their daughter was white, but was presenting herself as a black activist in the Spokane, Washington region. The story went viral and became an international sensation. She was immediately fired as the head of the local NAACP and was kicked off a police ombudsman commission. She also lost her job teaching African studies at Eastern Washington University. Since that time, she has not found regular employment. There have been rumors of homelessness and pornography as well.

She came under fire once again in March after Netflix released the first trailer of her documentary. The streaming giant was criticized for spending money to promote someone who is “fraudulent and problematic.” Dolezal’s teenage son Franklin, who is biracial, is featured in the trailer where he implores his mother to stop publicizing her beliefs. “I resent some of her choices and I resent some of the words she has spoken in interviews,” Franklin said during the documentary’s trailer. I bet. It’s embarrassing for him no doubt.

Netflix also submitted her documentary, The Rachel Divide, to the Tribeca Film Festival, which took place in April. The documentary received fewer than 500 likes and more than 1,300 dislikes on YouTube at press time. Dolezal’s calendar, which has already sold out, features various pictures of her striking poses with a collection of inspirational quotes.

Dolezal claimed in a BBC interview last year that ethnicity is not biological and compared being ‘transracial’ to being transgender. Not even close and it is more of a mental issue with this woman. She’s still out to scam as much money as possible as she can, including your taxpayer dollars.

In Dolezal’s memoir, she compared being forced to do household chores as a child to indentured servitude and noted that she developed a ‘similar resourcefulness’ to what slaves were forced to develop in order for her to complete her chores. She also claimed that the mere act of forcing kids to do household chores was similar to ‘the institution of chattel slavery in America’. Dolezal also wrote about how her first marriage ended because she was ‘too black’ for her African-American husband. She detailed the way she evolved over the years from being a blonde white girl with freckles into her current state of ‘Blackness’.
