Libertarian Kent State Grad Protests School’s Firearm Restrictions: ‘Come And Take It’

Kaitlin Bennett, a 22 year-old Second Amendment supporter from Zanesville, Ohio and founder of Liberty Hangout at Kent State, is exercising her right to open carry on campus. Because of her conservative stance, she is receiving death threats.

Bennett just recently graduated from Kent State, where students are not allowed to carry on campus, but everyone else can. Which is massively dumb. She carried an AR-10 Israeli-style and wore a cap that said, “Come and take it.” Oh, and she’s a Trump supporter.

When a handsome man supports gun rights, it’s a wonderful thing. When a beautiful woman does it, it’s devastating. Liberty Hangout is a media outlet that promotes Libertarian values. Kaitlin posed proudly and defiantly in front of the Kent Student Center for the tweet that has gone viral. “Now that I graduated from @KentState, I can finally arm myself on campus. I should have been able to do so as a student – especially since 4 unarmed students were shot and killed by the government on this campus. #CampusCarryNow,” she posted on Twitter. She was referring to a 48 year-old incident when Ohio National Guardsmen opened fire on Vietnam War protesters, killing four and wounding nine others.

Kaitlin is condemning the school’s “insulting” policies. “I wanted to draw attention to the gun policies on campus that allow guests to open carry, but not students,” she said. “I find it insulting that the school values the lives of their guests more than those attending the university for four years.” Excellent point and I could not agree more.

The university has a rule against students, faculty and staff carrying “deadly weapons.” But Kent State University spokesman Eric Mansfield told Fox News that because Bennett is no longer a student, she violated no policies. “After graduation, she joined the ranks of our proud graduates,” Mansfield said. “So at the time of this photo, she and other graduates would be permitted to open carry on our campus.” Kent State has a full-time, certified police force of more than 30 sworn officers who protect the campus and the university was recently ranked the safest big college campus in Ohio and the 25th safest in the country, according to National Council for Home Safety and Security. And they’ll protect you probably after you get shot – they can’t always be right there when crime is going down.

Bennett said even though she’s received death threats because of her post, she has no regrets. “I have no apologies for my graduation photos,” she tweeted. “As a woman, I refuse to be a victim & the second amendment ensures that I don’t have to be.” This kid’s got stones. In another tweet, she made it clear her gun is an AR-10 and not an “assault rifle” as many had claimed. “Wouldn’t it be awkward if the people calling my AR-10 in my grad photos an “assault rifle” found out assault rifles are banned & the AR-10 fires at the same rate as any modern pistol? Don’t talk about gun control when you can’t even get your facts straight.”

Bennett’s gun-toting graduation photo has gone viral on social media, triggering an extraordinary number of leftists in the process. The tweet has generated over a 2.6 thousand replies and has been “liked” over 18,000 times since being posted. “It’s a bad ass photo,” the graduate told WKYC 3. Yes, it is. She does us all proud. “You see in the media a lot about college students and high school students being advocates for gun control,” she added. “But you don’t see a lot going viral about students who are pro-Second Amendment and pro-gun rights.” Another commenter scolded Bennett, “It’s because of you we have to fear for our lives.” “Think shooting at the National Guard would have gone well for you?” posted another. Others harassing Bennett deleted their posts when the grad quote-tweeted their messages with pointed responses.

Bennett said she’s “not nervous” over the threats. “I carry,” she noted. Exactly. Two days after the original post, Bennett doubled-down on the photo. “I have no apologies for my graduation photos. As a woman, I refuse to be a victim & the second amendment ensures that I don’t have to be,” she wrote, captioning another photo of herself with her gun and graduation cap.

In an interview with Campus Reform, Bennett went into why she is protesting, saying, “Kent State University is a school in which the government shot four unarmed students 48 years ago. I believe not only that those four students would be alive today had they had the right to carry on campus, but that students today would be much safer.” She stated, “Universities that prohibit students from defending themselves but allow guests to do so are in a sense saying that they don’t value the safety of their students. Why are guests more important than the students who are paying thousands of dollars to attend the university?”

Bennett graduated with a BA in biology and plans to stick around. “If students thought my political activism at Kent will be over now that I have graduated, they are wrong,” she said. “I will still be in the area and intend on returning to campus to assist with Liberty Hangout at Kent State, and record videos for LibertyHangout.org. Only this time, I won’t have to worry about being expelled for expressing my views.” Or for being armed.
