White House adviser Kellyanne Conway appeared on Good Morning America following ABC’s exclusive interview with former FBI Director James Comey. She gave the interview to anchor George Stephanopoulos and called him out for allowing Comey a “free political commercial” to encourage Americans to vote President Trump out of office.
After Stephanopoulos asked if the President had watched the interview, Conway began nailing Comey for his “really gutter” juvenile personal attacks against Trump, “to talk about the size of his hands and length of his tie.” She then pointed to “the fact that Mr. Comey admitted to you that he allowed polling and politics to influence his decision” in the Hillary Clinton e-mail investigation as evidence of why he was fired by the President last year.
This misleading headline should include an eye roll and question mark. Point I made on 3 shows is that we are supposed to believe THIS guy swung an election? I don't think so. Kellyanne Conway slams Comey: 'This guy swung an election' – ABC News https://t.co/f0GdDE6Tvd

“He admitted to you he purposely leaked information to a friend so that it would get into the media and trigger a special counsel. This guy swung an election. He thought the wrong person would win,” she added. Many online jumped on Conway’s comments, saying she admitted that “Trump wouldn’t have won without Comey.”
Shortly after the long-time Trump adviser’s comments began to make the rounds online, Conway slammed the backlash as “misleading” and attempted to reshape her argument as one doubting Comey’s ability to swing an election. She said she was being sarcastic when she said that Comey swung the election. “This misleading headline should include an eye roll and question mark. Point I made on 3 shows is that we are supposed to believe THIS guy swung an election? I don’t think so. Kellyanne Conway slams Comey: ‘This guy swung an election’ – ABC News,” she tweeted.
Conway declared: “And now, at the end of your interview, George, he gave a free political commercial, telling people to go out there and vote against the President and his interests.” She also tore into Comey’s performance: “I think he struggled to answer basic questions and he looked a little shaky.” She said that Trump is perplexed that Comey is receiving so much attention for what she characterized as a “revisionist” version of his limited interactions with her boss. “The President is very confounded that this person is always able to divert the spotlight to him,” Conway said. “He has a very deft way of making things about him.”
Conway ended off by saying, “This man, Jim Comey, loves to be within the proximity of power. He loves having dinner alone with the President. If he hadn’t, he should have invited someone or asked who else was going to be there. He loved being alone in the Oval Office, he wanted a piece of it. He loved being in the proximity of power until he got fired and then wrote a book.” Reiterating that Comey leaked information about his meetings with the President, she asked: “Why does The New York Times have a right to get the leaked information and not the House – the House committees who represent all of us?”
During the interview, Comey suggested that voters are ‘duty-bound’ to remove the ‘morally unfit’ Trump via the ballot box. “Impeaching and removing Donald Trump from office would let the American people off the hook. … People in this country need to stand up and go to the voting booth and vote their values,” Comey said.
Conway was also quizzed by CNN morning host Chris Cuomo on why President Donald Trump has not expressed confidence in Special Counsel Robert Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Trump has targeted both in recent tweets for their roles in the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. She stated that Trump “implicitly” has confidence in both Mueller and Rosenstein because they continue to serve in their roles. The conversation pivoted to former FBI director James Comey with Conway repeating frequent White House accusations that he is lying about interactions he had with the President while remaining in office.
President Trump also slammed Comey as a liar over all this. He lambasted his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server and asserted again that Comey and another FBI official had committed crimes. In his tweet, Trump complained that Comey “drafted the Crooked Hillary exoneration long before he talked to her” and asserted that in deciding how to handle the case, Comey “based his decisions on her poll numbers.”
Trump tweeted: “Comey drafted the Crooked Hillary exoneration long before he talked to her (lied in Congress to Senator G), then based his decisions on her poll numbers. Disgruntled, he, McCabe, and the others, committed many crimes!” Trump was referring to a July 2016 recommendation by Comey that Clinton not be charged in relation to her practice of using a private email server while secretary of state.

Whoa. Kellyanne seems to say Trump wouldn’t have won without the Comey announcement 11 days out. https://t.co/wxeLugXlYx
