Holy freaking tomatoes! The bromance between President Trump and Steve Bannon has now officially ended. It’s safe to say that he will not be invited to the White House anytime soon. Trump issued a blistering, four-paragraph takedown of Steve Bannon Wednesday, hours after the Guardian reported that Bannon called Donald Trump Jr. “treasonous” for meeting with Russian operatives during the campaign. Then he intimated somehow it was okay because it was leaked to the media, or some such madness.
President Donald Trump said Wednesday that former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon “has nothing to do with me or my presidency,” after Bannon made scathing comments about the President and his associates in a new book. “When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind. Steve was a staffer who worked for me after I had already won the nomination by defeating seventeen candidates, often described as the most talented field ever assembled in the Republican party.”
“Steve was rarely in a one-on-one meeting with me and only pretends to have had influence to fool a few people with no access and no clue, whom he helped write phony books.” Ouch. Ben Shapiro describes it as Trump putting Bannon in a body bag. Hard to argue with that. Bannon’s comments were reported in excerpts from the forthcoming book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” by Michael Wolff.

As I understand it, the Guardian got a hold of a preview copy of the book and all hell broke loose after they read the explosive contents. Trump’s statements follow that leak. In the book, Bannon slams the President’s son, Donald Trump Jr., son-in-law Jared Kushner and campaign chairman Paul Manafort and calls their infamous meeting with a Russian lawyer during the campaign “treasonous” and “unpatriotic.” That’s an absolute about-face for Bannon. So, was he lying then or is he lying now? Sorry, but it’s one or the other here. In his statement, Trump says he doesn’t deserve any credit for his White House win. I agree with that. Trump was the personality and the man that won the election.
This is embarrassing for President Trump and could not come at a worse time. Iran is imploding and we just warned North Korea that if they don’t start dismantling their nuclear program immediately, we are going to hit them with a preemptive strike. Russia and China are salivating over that. To top it all off, a budget to keep the government open is hanging by a thread. Good times. Who ordered an apocalypse?

“Now that he is on his own, Steve is learning that winning isn’t as easy as I make it look,” Trump said. “Steve had very little to do with our historic victory, which was delivered by the forgotten men and women of this country. Yet Steve had everything to do with the loss of a Senate seat in Alabama held for more than thirty years by Republicans. Steve doesn’t represent my base—he’s only in it for himself.” He also accuses Bannon of leaking to the media while serving as his adviser at the White House. I’m certain that statement is very true. I’ve always suspected it.
“Steve pretends to be at war with the media, which he calls the opposition party, yet he spent his time at the White House leaking false information to the media to make himself seem far more important than he was,” he said. “It is the only thing he does well.” He added, “Steve was rarely in a one-on-one meeting with me and only pretends to have had influence to fool a few people with no access and no clue, whom he helped write phony books.”
Steve worked with Trump for over a year and then left the White House in August when Kelly came on board as Chief of Staff. Then he went back to Breitbart. When Steve left the White House, he had vowed to help Trump by waging a populist campaign from the outside. Somewhere that went off the rails. “If there’s any confusion out there, let me clear it up: I’m leaving the White House and going to war for Trump against his opponents — on Capitol Hill, in the media, and in corporate America,” Bannon said.
Word has it Mitch McConnell is tickled over this development. Trump has been kind and gracious to Bannon. It’s a shame that Steve is turning on him like this. I can only imagine why he would do something like this.
