BREAKING: Horrible Harry Reid Advances Constitutional Amendment to Limit Free Speech

In the late hours of Friday, just before the Senate began its five-week recess, Majority Leader Harry Reid took a shocking action — one that, at first, sounds like an impossibility, a joke. But it’s not.

The Nevada Democrat, true to his freedom-hating progressive nature, made sure that when the Senate reconvenes, it will take up a constitutional amendment limiting free speech. No kidding, friends, the United States Senate will soon consider whether to amend our Constitution to curtail our free speech rights.

From the Washington Examiner:

[quote_box_center]Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., on Friday scheduled a Sept. 8 procedural vote on a constitutional amendment to limit the amount of money in politics, a shrewd measure designed to curb donations to conservative candidates.

Reid filed cloture on a motion to proceed with S.J. Res. 19, which seeks to undo the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision that ruled the federal government cannot restrict political contributions fromunions and corporations.[/quote_box_center]

Let’s hope that liberty-loving, freedom-cherising Americans will give their senators an earful during the break, letting them know that Reid and his kind will not take away our precious rights!

Saying that MONEY is freedom of speech is a crime against humanity. Money takes freedom from the poorer candidates. It isn’t freedom of speech if you can’t be heard because big bucks have bought up all the air time and all the billboards. Regardless of party affiliation, every one should have an equal opportunity to be heard. That is true freedom of speech.

        August 4, 2014 at 12:47 am

We should all have the freedom to use our money to promote the candidate of our choice. Unions steal my money and promote candidates I can’t stand. I have no choice. If you don’t want corporations to spend money then stop unions from stealing my money to support candidates I can’t stand. Unions control California.

I agree, but lets start with the Koch Brothers as they are doing just that. They even bus in folks to their events just to make a show out things because hardly no one shows up. Money is NOT Speech, and if you believe that it is then you’re a fricken idiot!
It’s just like corporations are people. Anyone with half a brain cell knows that is complete hogwash! But you Simpletons go ahead and believe the Bullshit Propaganda that the rightwing is feeding you.

wow, so, start with the Koch’s, but totally ignore Michael Doomberg who is surrounded by armed guards whilst funding movements accross the country to take away our 2nd amendment rights…you need to either stop listening to Harry Reid, or be complacent in the fact that he’s already dick deep in you and you enjoy it….

      martial law

  12. Kaz

    August 1, 2014 at 7:44 pm

Actually Obama does want a revolution. It will allow him to invoke Martial law and remain president (king) for an undetermined amount of time. He has backup plans too. Russia could declare war giving him that option. The immigration situation could erupt into violence giving him the chance and if he can get the Ebola virus to spread that will allow him to carry out his plans too.

no doubt he’s just waiting for it all to come down

    • Art69z

      August 2, 2014 at 12:43 pm

Actually, the constitution does not address martial law. It is up to the governor of each state to request federal government assistance when they deem it necessary. That is one of the reason Pres. Bush got a “bum rap” for not sending nation guard or our military to New Orleans during Katrina. The governor at the time did not formally request assistance, until well after the damage was done and the looting/pilferage had started.

Have to be careful, dems can lie, cheat and steal to get almost anything they want. Look what’s in office. And most sane people would have voted reid out a long time ago, how much cheating do you think is going on there? Don’t under estimate the left and their black belt in criminal activity to further their own ends. Just vote against them and watch for their double crosses and lies.

      • Kadja2

        August 2, 2014 at 8:09 pm

And a lot of dems have become aware of that and regret their vote. It is one thing to be a liberal and another to be a progressive. I still say he fears putting bills to a vote because he fears true liberals will side with the GOP and vote in favor of them.

        • tammy

          August 4, 2014 at 3:28 am

I think so too. Liberals are not the biggest problem, it is the Progressives who have taken over the Dem Party. Most libs just drink the koolaid and go off to lala land, but most are harmless. It is the Progressives who are dangerous

          • Christopher Chance

            August 12, 2014 at 5:24 pm

You are right but that is only one symptom of the problem which as I said above is lack of representation for us, that is what caused this country to come into being in the first place, it would be sad if it were what breaks us. Don’t you agree?

          • tammy

            August 15, 2014 at 5:12 am

          August 15, 2014 at 2:20 pm

Well keep on drinking the liberal Kool Aid then, since I know you won’t change your liberally re-educated mind. I am neither a Republican or Democrat nor a tea party member, like the bumper sticker on my car says “I am not a republican or Democrat, I am an American and I want my country back!” I blame both sides equally, mr./ms defensive blondie blue. But I do recognize the biggest part of the problem comes from the policies of the left, which are destroying this country morally and every other way. The left are the ones seeking to steal our freedoms, and if you don’t see that, well like I said keep being an obama zombie and sucking on the liberal teet, I bet you like that leftist Kool Aid.

What the fuck is wrong with you people? The Citizens United ruling took away YOUR freedom of speech and gave it to the corporations! If corporations and unions can give unlimited amounts of money to candidates, what makes you think these candidates will continue to care about your relatively paltry donations? You think if a corporation or union donates $1 million to someone that they give a shit about your $5 donation? Seriously? USE YOUR BRAINS!

  18. Rosnan

    August 2, 2014 at 7:30 am

What a misleading headline. How is limiting the amount of money in politics limiting free speech?

    • Shawn Swift

      August 2, 2014 at 8:14 am

Republicans seem to think that money = speech, and that those with more money should have more speech. The day money is taken out of politics is the day that Americans take their country back from the control of the wealthy.

      • Kadja2

        August 2, 2014 at 8:12 pm

The problem is that many think the wealthy are ONLY in the GOP when there are many dems worth millions–like Boxer, Pelosi and this snake.

I have a question for anyone who can answer it. Won’t this hurt Dems as badly or worse than Republicans? It’s aimed at the Koch brothers (even though Reid took money from them, too). I thought, historically, Dems took more in donations than the Repubs. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’d like a little clarity. Thanks in advance for the answers!:)

    • Shawn Swift

      August 2, 2014 at 8:20 am

I don’t know if this will hurt dems or not, and I don’t care. We’re not playing football here. Rooting for your “team” at any cost is idiotic. Allowing those who have money to speak louder than those who won’t is an affront to the very concept of a democracy. If that’s the route we want to take, we may as well replace the tax and voting systems with a “vote with your dollar” system. Go to the polls, find your candidate’s box, and slip as many $1’s $20’s and $100’s as you can afford to in there. Whoever gets the most money, wins!

      • Katy Wilkerson

        August 2, 2014 at 8:07 pm

I’m not rooting for a team. Honestly, I don’t think either party is right. I was just trying to make sense of why he would pass a bill that would hurt his team as much or more than his opponents. Limiting the amount of money a group can contribute to an election would hurt the Dems more, you would think (with all the unions on their side). Unless they put some sort of addendum in there exempting donations to Dems. That really wouldn’t surprise me.

There has to be more to it then just that because Reid was elected last time he ran because of the help of the unions. So he would not take food from his own table without a catch. I am personally all for equalizing the field to all candidate having the same amount of money thus stopping contributions from outsiders. I would say to let them use whatever money to get through the primaries and then stick to a strict even amount for the rest of the campaigns once past primaries. That would include one Democrat, Republican and one Independent. No one can give any candidate more air time for commercials or interviews during the campaign.
