The state of Illinois has long been at war with the 2nd Amendment and especially with concealed carry. It was the only state in the Union where you could not carry a concealed weapon because you could not get a permit. It wasn’t “hard” to get a CCW permit, you could not get one.
Thankfully, for the good people of Illinois at least, the Supreme Court has changed that and Illinois has been forced to issue CCW permits. In addition, it’s now legal to own a firearm in Chicago, and a recent court decision even overturned the law in Chicago that banned gun and ammunition sales.
They’re still doing all they can to keep guns out of the hands of citizens, charging nearly $500 for classes and a CCW permit, but at least they’re available.
[T]he amount of Illinois residents seeking a conceal carry permit already surpasses those who enrolled in Obamacare after the first two months of the launch of healthcare.gov. The Chicago Sun-Times reported 4,525 individuals signed up on Sunday alone for their firearms permits, when the State Police first opened the process to all concealed carry applicants.
Illinois State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said that number is included in Sunday’s total of more than 11,000 people who have signed up because of an early application process that began December 18 and was open to only firearm instructors. Officials told the Sun-Times they expect 350,000 to 400,000 people (about 1,000 per day) will sign up for conceal carry firearm permits this year.
That’s a trend that is mirrored nationally. It seems that Mike Bloomberg and Barack Obama are the two best things that have ever happened to the firearms industry.
Gun records checks, fueled by a post-Newtown boom of gun sales, hit a new high in 2013, and industry analysts expect ammunition to be the big seller this year as consumers catch up to all of those firearms purchases.
More than 21 million applications were run through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System last year, marking nearly an 8 percent increase and the 11th straight year that the number has risen.
“2013 was the best year for firearm sales (commercial, domestic) in history — period! That’s true for NH to Hawaii,” said Richard Feldman, president of the Independent Firearm Owners Association in Rindge, N.H. “Ruger alone sold well over one million guns this year.”
Mr. Feldman said to expect the next surge to be in bullets.
“Ammunition will still be very strong in 2014 as it hasn’t caught up nationally with the demand,” he said.
Thank God, and the wisdom of the Founders, for the 2nd Amendment. And as far as the gun grabbers are concerned, take that!
