Bombshell: House Democrats Call for Government Takeover of Oil Refineries

You just had to know this was coming!

I know this is the second release I've posted in it's entirety today from leader Boehner's press office but both are imperative!

From the desk of Republican Leader John Boehner:

Should the Federal Government Run the Entire Oil Industry? Senior Dem Says: "To Me, That Sounds Like a Very Good Idea"

Washington, Jun 18 - Two weeks ago, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) shocked many observers when she admitted to oil company executives during a House committee hearing, “This liberal will be all about socializing, uh, uh . . . would be about . . . basically taking over and the government running all of your companies.”

Most of those watching that hearing simply assumed Rep. Waters’ wild threat was just another extreme idea from someone on the far-left fringe of the Democratic Party. But today, a leading energy voice for House Democrats proved that her dream of nationalizing the oil industry isn’t as far-fetched as some may believe. Rather, it just may be the House Democrats’ worst kept secret.

In front of a sea of news cameras at a press conference earlier today, when senior House Democrats discussed the ongoing energy crisis that has spun out of control on their watch, Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) dropped this bombshell as he stood next to House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-IL): He proposed a Washington takeover of the entire oil industry!

Here’s what Rep. Hinchey said:

Quote:
“Should the people of the United States own refineries? Maybe so. Frankly, I think that’s a good idea. Then we could control the amount of refined product much more capably that gets out on the market…”

“So if there’s any seriousness about what some of our Republican colleagues are saying here in the House and elsewhere about improving the number of refineries, then maybe they’d be willing to have these refineries owned publicly, owned by the people of the United States, so that the people of the United States can determine how much of the product is refined and put out on the market.”

“To me, that sounds like a very good idea.”

Rep. Hinchey is not unfamiliar with energy policy. Rather, he is a leader on the issue for House Democrats and was chosen by Democratic leaders to appear at today’s press conference because of his energy expertise. After all, he serves on the powerful Interior Appropriations Subcommittee, which controls federal spending on many energy-related matters, and the Natural Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over energy and environmental matters.

After today’s shocking display, the American people are wondering: What other House Democratic leaders support Washington bureaucrats taking over our nation’s oil refineries?

Does Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) support it?
Does Majority Leader Hoyer (D-MD)?
Does Democratic Caucus Chairman Emanuel support it?

While the Democratic leadership team is answering these questions, House Republicans will continue to push for their “all of the above” energy plan that harnesses new technologies, encourages more efficiency and conservation, and increases the production of American energy in an environmentally-safe way. A key element of the GOP plan is a discharge petition filed today by Rep. Phil English (R-PA) to force Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Hoyer to schedule a vote on Rep. Joe Pitts’ (R-PA) Expand American Refining Capacity Act (H.R. 2279). The bill would allow the President to recommend closed military bases suitable for new refinery construction.

Instead of talking about a federal takeover of an industry hundreds of millions of Americans depend on each and every day, isn’t it time for the Democratic Majority to take a few steps back from the radical left fringe and schedule the House GOP’s comprehensive energy plan for an up-or-down vote on the House floor?

to rear up and slap these Dems down, if it wasn't for the things I keep hearing from seemingly intelligent people. The Dems have done a masterful job of brainwashing the American people into HATING big oil -- to the point that a lot of people think taking it away from them is a good idea.

God help us all!

Insane thing was she was holding up Norway as a model and Gas in Norway is 8.50 a gallon.

I was telling Steve. Expect to her NORWAY as the argument for nationalizing the oil companies -- because Norway doesn't suck NEARLY as badly as Venezuela, Russia or Mexico.

Continues.

Every time I think I can vote for McCain he makes a speech like his Cap & Trade speech on Global Warming, or he makes statements about using the Federal Government to regulate what CEOS are allowed to earn or he dumps on Billy Graham. so I decide there is no way this side of heaven that I will vote for him...Then the Dems come up with something like this and I'm right back in Johnny Mac's arms!

What's a Conservative to do in times like this?

... and it's been - what? - a whole quarter since the Democrats proposed nationalizing an entire industry, so they must be getting itchy and Big OilTM is an easy target.

It's brilliant, really - their own policies over the last 30-40 years create a huge supply problem for us that we (according to them, of course) now need the federal government to step-in and "fix" with a take over. Were I not of the mind to try, convict and execute every single one of these b*stards as domestic enemies of the Constitution I'd have to admire their ability to stick to the script and "Git R Done".

...play book. Create a nonexistent problem then offer a solution that benefits only them.

Like the protection racket - go to a bar owner tell them that some other nonexistent lowlife organization has targeted them and offer the solution in the form of paid protection.

brilliant really!

this as if it's going to happen and make the Democrats explain how they would reimburse the shareholders and investment funds and pension plans that are heavily invested in these oil companies?

And they should also be made to come up with any industry industry that has ever been taken over by any government around the globe that was made more efficient and was able to lower costs after the takeover was completed...
