Whoever has his enemy at his mercy & does not destroy him is his own enemy

...RS is backed by a multi-million dollar publishing company! TMR is backed by a multi-dozen penny peasant, namely me! :0) but I promise it wont be that bad.

Greetings.

Obviously, I'm a new poster to this blog. As a moderate (VERY moderate) leftist, the ideology that I reluctantly support puts me at odds with the political leanings of TMR's founder and writers, however, this is the stimulation I crave, and is, I feel, what TRULY inquiring minds need. Though centrism (would yon ideologues accuse me of PC for using that term?) is, I believe, the key to the future, I surmise that key will be held by the moderate rightists. This view doesn't exactly fuel support for the woefully deep roots of the far right-leaning GOP this blog stalwartly extols, but one must start somewhere. When the modern moderate righties, who reasonably shun irrelevant traditions and acknowledge the faults wrought by vaulting romanticism and infallibility, become a majority in the next 15-20 years, I'll likely vote Republican. But ya ain't there yet.

Consequently, here are some interesting thoughts from one of my favorite columnists that I found quite...stimulating: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi-oped1112parkernov12,0,1115580.column

The blog is great, and I look forward to reading and commenting some more.

Thanks, and be well.

your intellectual thinking however I have to say you misunderstand where the Republican Party is going.

We are going back to the basics...small government, low taxes and social issue's back to the states and out of the hands of the ideological courts. If you find those items to be part of the way you want to go WELCOME if not well you will continue to vote Democrat.

Under the conservatives we plan to run to win there will be no earmarks there will be no bailouts it will be a SUCK IT UP society as it should be. The government is not mommy and daddy and nor should it EVER be.

you see, as a moderate (very moderate) Democrat you should already have been in the Sen John McCain camp in this election. Sen McCain and not President-elect Obama is the one who has consistently worked across the aisle with the other party to get things accomplished. President-elect Obama has no record at all of ever reaching out (except for contributions) to anyone other than the ideological left.

If you supported President-elect Barack Obama you are already voting against your moderate (very moderate) beliefs. Now here, it is important to remember that deeds speak louder than "words, just words..... just speeches."

President-elect Obama was willing to say just about anything to just about anyone in order to get himself elected. Deeds, on the other hand, suggest where his actual loyalties lie. You see, for instance, while high gas prices were crippling the US economy, and destroying the moderate income earners ability to balance his own budget, Sen Obama, in a candid moment admitted that he supported high energy prices, but he wanted them to go up more gradually. (My only explanation for that being that a gradual increase in prices results in less complaining.) Did he not support his Democratic congresscritters who were demanding a :Windfall Profits Tax" on Big Oil because the oil prices were so high? Since when does a tax result in a reduction in price? He then suggested that he might be willing to support more supply with offshore drilling.

Now, safely elected, he has admitted that one of the first things he intends to do is rescind all of the Bush Executive Orders, including lifting the ban on offshore drilling. And, because barrel prices of oil have dropped so dramatically congressional Democrats are looking at a tax on every barrel of oil that is sold BELOW $90, because of the lost revenue to the government at that lower price. Certainly as a moderate (very moderate) Democrat you recognize the idiocy of such a tax.

As a moderate (very moderate) Democrat you must have supported McCain-Feingold, the campaign finance legislation that was designed to get the money and influence out of politics. That was Sen McCain reaching out with both hands to the Democrats. When it came time for a presidential election, Sen McCain followed McCain-Feingold, even beyond the requirements, while President-elect Obama used technicalities to skirt both the intent and the letter of that law. While Sen McCain listed, and made public every single donation made by anyone, right down to a single dollar donation, President-elect Obama hid behind the technicality of the $200 limit to enable fraud and allow donations to flow into his campaign that he had to know were illegal. The safeguards built into online credit sales -- name, address, security code -- were all disabled, as hundreds of millions of dollars poured in from overseas and "unknown" sources. As a moderate (very moderate) Democrat doesn't that complete disregard for the rule of law anger you?

As for nominating moderates (very moderates) as candidates, take a look at the young man on the youtube on our front page. I agree with him.
