Putting tax increases on the table in the run-up to a general election always works like a charm. Just ask Presidents Duakakis and Mondale.
Republican presidential candidate John McCain's signal that he may be open to a higher payroll tax for Social Security, despite previous vows not to raise taxes of any kind, is drawing sharp rebukes from conservatives.
Yep - that's sure as heck going to sway the "I'll open a vein before I vote McCain" wing of the GOP. Yessiree!
Probably not in the way McMaverick wants, though.
"There is nothing that's off the table. I have my positions, and I'll articulate them. But nothing's off the table," McCain said. "I don't want tax increases. But that doesn't mean that anything is off the table."
Yep, you have your positions Maverick. But we all know what it means when a politician says that "nothing is off the table" - watch your wallet.
Great job blasting to bits one of those rare instances where you may have been percieved as being "rather better" than The Chosen One, Maverick. Sheer brilliance of a magnitude not seen since, well, the other day when the Speaker-in-Law declared increased offshore drilling to be a hoax.
We are so totally freaking screwed.
