Tony Snow, 53.

Sad news on this Saturday morning - Tony Snow has lost his battle with colon cancer at the age of 53.

Quote:
Tony Snow, a conservative writer and commentator who cheerfully sparred with reporters in the White House briefing room during a stint as President Bush's press secretary, died Saturday of colon cancer.

Mr. Snow was, as we all know, given the Herculean task of picking up the pieces of what was left of the White House Press Operation after the long-overdue departure of Judas - I mean, Scott McClellan.

RIP, Tony. You are, and will be, missed.

one of my internet haunts and caught my breath at finding out a media titan has died.

My prayers go out for his wife and children. May God bless them and keep them in this time of loss and may God rest Tony's soul!

I think it would be good for traffic here if we had some good debates, esp including you and I on opposite sides. Let me suggest some topics on which I may have an unorthodox view as per conservatives:

1-I lean towards a federal government financed Manhattan Project to solve the gas problem so that we can all continue to afford our own horse on the interstate highway system

2-I lean towards drug legalization on the federal level (and state, but that states should have the freedom to decide)

3-I think we should put a qualified black man on the GOP ticket

4-I lean towards Newt's plan to pay kids in inner cities a McDonalds wage to take and make B's in math and science

but I agree on all four points. Mostly.

My big concern is that pushing for a Manhattan Project type of a program to solve the energy crisis isn't 100% necessary because there are already market incentives for the company that will be on the bleeding edge of the transportation method of the future (as long as it becomes viable before their patent runs out). I think a strengthened patent system in regards to this system may help even more R&D dollars get dumped into this soon to be created industry.

You know that I was one of the first to tout the idea of Condi Rice as the VP. I was on the record with that view more than a year ago.

I was a supporter of JC Watts. He is not interested in returning to politics. At this point, it would be pandering to search for a black candidate, just for the sake of a minority.

I firmly believe that the first black President or VP will be a Republican. The first black, or minority elected will NOT be an affirmative action pick; ie Democrat, but instead, will be someone of such talent and character that the choice will be obvious.

Steve Foley's picture

...but I think, for McCain, a great pick (other than the obvious short list) would be Colin Powell.

I think on the issues that Colin Powell and Bush couldn't see eye to eye McCain's more closely aligned and Vice-versa!

This would in no way be considered pandering as explained above imo.

David Hinz's picture

they would point to Colin Powell's tenure at the State Department as a dismal failure -- claiming that he was captured by the system.

But I never bought into that theme, myself. I see the State Department best fixed with a small tactical nuke -- and so the fact that he was unable to reform that bureaucrazy in his short tenure there is not something I would hold against him.

I know that he is moderate on some issues, but I do believe that he would not be afraid to protect this country...and that is a lot more than I could say for some of the other choices I have seen thrown out there.

Isn't he rumored to be considering an Obama endorsement?

But Powell does make sense with McCain!

Brian Simpson's picture
he really does sound like he is talking about Obama in this interview. Especially listening to the left-wing talking points of repairing our standing in the international community nonsense.

if McGoo picks a minority...it'll be seen as pandering by both Republicans and Democrats...Therefore, Dems won't give him any credit and the Repubs will be pissed that he's pandering to the bean counters and race hustlers....

On the flip side, if it's him and another white guy vs Obama, and I'm almost positive he's going to pick a woman or a Latino....it''l be a disaster because he's already so dull and a an all white guy ticket against two minorities will create all kinds of buzz that McGoo will never be able to overcome!

I was also trying to resign myself to him...but I'm dropping the pretense at least at TMR...I despise the man!

many moderates including a foxy chick from Massachusetts I met over cocktails yesterday happy hour, they all despise McCain, but they are ALL voting for him because Obama is simply a liberal freak to them. He is not in the ballgame.

and despise him at the same time can't I?

BTW...Roy Blount stuck his head out over at RS and asked for some "Healthy Debate".

I dumped a steaming pile of derision on him...don't miss the chance to let him know how he's doing!

I check the numbers and I see a slow steady increase each and every day. AND, something like 45% of the people who come here bookmark it!

aceintx's picture

BTW...why is it "The Minority Report"?

What happens if the Republicans get back in the Majority again by some miracle?

Impeach the Traitorous 5!!!

Steve Foley's picture

...because I created it after our defeat in 06 and because conservatives had become a minority within the party.

Plus, like Mary Katharine Ham said at a dinner once: "That's an awesome name"

I own The Majority Report also but don't think I'll ever change it at this point.

Then we’ll have an updated mission of moving a GOP majority to a Conservative GOP majority.

Especially when I happen to think that

1- is crazy stupid and, to a large extent, has already been going-on since the 70's
2- is one that I as a recovering Libertarian should have a great deal of agreement, but don't
3- is, well, pointless and
4- is treatment of a symptom of the problem (poor grades from unmotivated students) rather than the problem itself (poor teachers in a corrupt government bureaucracy with horribly unmotivated - if present at all - parents)

That said though, my blog time for the next month or so is going to be rather limited - so if you wanted to start this off I'd be more than happy to chime in.

The NL braves. What a game. Even if every close tag call has been wrong, technically, I actually agree with calling them out when the ball beats them there and its fielded cleanly.
