The order today came as a result of the Detroit Mayor's meetings last week in Windsor, Ontario to discuss with Canadian officials to sell the bridge between the two cities. According to the terms of his bond, Kilpatrick may not leave the state without receiving permission from the court.
In ordering Kilpatrick to jail, Judge Jiles pointed out that if the mayor had the time to set up a meeting with Canadian officials, he had the time to place a call notify the court of that meeting.
Lawyers for Kilpatrick indicated that they intend to appeal the decision, but that appeal will not be heard until tomorrow morning, ensuring that the mayor will spend at least one night behind bars.
The mayor will not, however be integrated into the general population at the facility, but instead will be housed in a special section of the jail for celebrity inmates. This comes, I am sure, as welcome news to the mayor that he will not be spending the night with a roommate named Bubba.
