TMR and Diversity in the Right-Thinking Blogosphere

The French Chef and those pesky kitchen mishaps

As we all know, the launch of 3.0 on Red State was accompanied by certain, uh, technical difficulties, and these keep recurring from time to time. In restaurant-speak, too many caches spoil the broth!

Now Red State is a fantastic franchise, as the Wall Streeters might put it. RS is more civil and disciplined than Free Republic. Its community-based structure gives it an interactive quality that makes it more interesting than the magazine sites like NRO or The Weekly Spectator. Its hit count is enormous by righty blog standards, and RS is followed by the movers and shakers of Washington DC. It is, simply, indispensable.
But there ARE those technical difficulties. Pushing the food analogies a bit further, RS reminds me of a first class French restaurant. When it is good, it's REALLY good. But when you walk in on a bad day, there's hell to pay. The kitchen accidents have everyone in a tizzy, the maitre d is having a meltdown, the chefs are snarling at the customers, who are throwing things at the staff.

That's where sites like The Minority Report come in. TMR's platform has been remarkably stable. The recent screen modifications make it easy on the eye. Its input format is much easier to follow than the one on RS 2.0, and the improvements on 3.0 came at a price, as we all know.

Diversity in the righty blogosphere,, or perhaps the better term would be diversification, seems like an especially good thing these days. Because as delicious as baron de boeuf aux champignons might be, sometimes you're just hungry and want a burger and fries. TMR is open 24/7. And we're always willing to sling our frites anywhere!

You articulated why I kinda gave up on offering my paltry fare onto Redstate. The new format got in the way technically and my infrequent insights just aren't worth the pain of getting on the big board.

welcome here. In fact, I would say it is craved.

and the quality can be uneven at times, while the site's technical problems have slowed down the ability to read, comment and recommend.

This all detracts from the interactive experience. Growing pains, I guess.

when you know the chefs are good...

I love TMR...I need to learn the coding

I do Everything in HTML which means i have to change all tags...one at a time

Is there a code editor for your code?

Time is EVERYTHING...that's why RS 3.0 is sucking right now..and why I don't post to TMR often

is a line marked Input format.

In that you have the option of several formats to use including HTML, BBCode or Markdown. Neil did that so that each of us could figure out posting regardless of our level (or lack thereof) of competence. (Thank you Neil!)

Then, under each of the format options there are cheat boxes that tell you exactly how to use them. Although I am an old dog, I have come to find that BBCode is easier to use than html once I got the hang of it. The only thing I haven't figured out with that is text wrap around a photo -- so I don't do it!

There is a small arrow and then the words “Input format” directly underneath the comment box. Your choices are PHP code, Full HTML, BBCode and Markdown.

I actually recommend that you learn Markdown. It is really easy and works both here and at RedState. That way if you create posts in both places it isn’t too hard to cross-post.

There is a good how-to here

You will be amazed at how much faster and cleaner it is.

But don’t dump IE (as much as I wanted to). There are still a lot of websites that only work on IE…the bastards.

It is kinda like the stupid RS poster the other day, dumberthandirt I think his name is, trying to insult me without realizing that half the regular posters at RS also post here.
