One phrase jumped out at me in Obama’s speech in Berlin today. He said, "I know that I don’t look like the Americans who’ve previously spoken in this great city."
Mr. Obama’s statement makes it seem as though no one in Europe has ever seen a black American in a position of power. I hate to break this to Mr. Obama, but two of the most powerful people in the world, Colin Powell, our former Secretary of State, and Condaleeza Rice, our current Secretary of State, are black Americans. Both have traveled the world, meeting with and negotiating agreements with Heads of State from every country. They have never introduced themselves as looking different from other Americans. Either one of them could run for President of the United States if he or she chose to.
So, Mr. Obama, try to win the Presidency from the content of your character, not from the color of your skin.
