Polar Bear: threatened. Harp Seals and the US Economy hardest hit.

Tagged:

Hard to believe that the GOP brand is a mess when you have this sort of ruling coming out of the (nominally) Republican Bush administration, eh?

Quote:
The Interior Department declared the polar bear a threatened species Wednesday, saying it must be protected because of the decline in Arctic sea ice from global warming.

I'm sure the presumptive GOP nominee for President agrees with the decision.

Quote:
(US Interior Secretary Dirk) Kempthorne also said, though, that it would be "inappropriate" to use the protection of the bear to reduce greenhouse gases, or to broadly address climate change.

Now, you're an allegedly smart dude, Secretary Kempthorne. With the law of entirely predictableunintended conesquences being what it is don't you think it, you know, inevitable that the protection of the bear will precisely be used as a justification for reducing greenhouse gasses and to broadly address climate change?

Don't you?

Wonderful - chalk up another win for the eco-socialists.

Analysis by HH and Hinderacker.

Short version - we're screwed. But you already knew that.

ANWR? No way, Jose.

$4 per gallon for gas? Only the beginning, my friends.

H/T DrewM @AoSHQ for being first with the line about seals and the economy.

Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can find a rock.

It's going to be four long years of this kind of thing.

And it will be even worse if the Democrats win the White House.

Between a "Threatened" species and an "Endangered" one?

I know that a species on the Endangered species list is a wide open door for enviromentalists to stop anything that could even minimally affect the habitat, but what about a Threatened species?

Something tells me this probably plays out the same, but hopefully I'm wrong.

At the end of the day there is no practical difference between the two. The eco-socialists will use this listing to gum-up just about anything they wish to gum-up and now they have the Bush Administration in their corner.

Swell.

I had a sliver of hope that it was just a symbolic thing.
