Dr. Strangelove or: How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love Defeat

Peter Sellers as Dr. Strangelove in Stanley Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Stopped Worrying and Learned How to Love the Bomb”Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious... service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature.~ Dr. Strangelove”

While watching the end of Dr. Strangelove I had an eerie thought that I could not shove out of my head. I started to imagine Harry Reid as Dr. Strangelove. For those of you that have never watched Dr. Strangelove, do so now, because it is just plain funny. Yes, it’s chopped full of black, political satire that can be fair game for both the left and right, but I find the whole film hilarious.

It’s not really the chain of events that lead up to the final scenes that brought about the comparison of Dr. Strangelove to Harry Reid; the portrayed self serving behavior could be compared to most politicians. Instead it was my realization that I had finally figured out what the title meant! I have seen this movie countless times, the scene of Slim Pickens yee-hawing wildly as he rides bronco style a nuclear bomb named “HI THERE” into a Ruskie missile facility has been burned into my pop-culture memory, but I have never really dwelled on the meaning of the title.

It was Dr. Strangelove’s sudden enthusiasm for becoming a cave dweller, retreating from the holocaust above that made the title click. Dr. Strangelove was pleased that both sides had lost the Cold War. Enthusiastic about the prospect of world destruction, because he knew he would be one of the chosen elite to survive underground. He became excited at the prospect of a life he envisioned as a breeder’s paradise with a mission to repopulate the world. He had learned to love the bomb because it would give an old washed up Nazi like himself another chance at holding the reins of power.

I think Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have come to a similar conclusion about the WOT. They care not for the fate of the rest of the world, for they are the chosen elite. I believe that they now have a perverted vision of a new America empowered by failure and hardened by defeat. As seen by Mr. Reid’s surrendering outburst last week, the Democrat leadership can barely contain their enthusiasm when it comes to trying to lose the war. The Democrats have learned to love defeat, because these washed up hippies and professional politicians equate the failure of a war effort with the attainment of power.

In the movie it is discovered that Dr. Strangelove was named Dr. Merkwurdigliebe (strange-love in German) originally, but he had Anglicized his name. Dr. Strangelove cared little that he would have to live below ground for a hundred years; after all, he would be powerful once again as an American scientist elite. In the same manner, the Democrats seem to care little that the nation they are now forcing to its knees in submission to radical Islam will no longer be a great power. I wonder if the Democrat leaders will Islamicize the (D) designation to instead stand for the often snarked Dhimmicrat.
