Greetings From a RedState Refugee

Tagged:

Many of you know me from RedState but some don't. I've been pretty much a regular there for about two and a half years. The site has become all but unusable, so I need a place to hang. Thank you for having me.

For those who don't know me, I did labor relations work for the State of Alaska for about twenty years culminating my State career as the politicaly appointed director of labor relations for Gov. Frank Murkowski. I didn't finish out the term, retiring on July 1, 2006, since keeping my head above the surface in the cesspool the administration had become just wasn't worth it. I sat out the 2006 primary but being a good Republican I dutifully supported Sarah Palin when she became the nominee. Now I'm kinda thinking I should have written a bigger check and been a litte nicer to her! She didn't like it a lot when in one of my very first RedState blogs reporting on the Alaska gubernatorial debates, I said that the severely pulled back hair and the dark-framed glasses made her look like the librarian in a porno movie. Kinda wishin' now that I hadn't said that - even if it is true!

In any event, though we haven't been the greatest friends, I do know her well enough that we would be on a first name basis in private; her first name, of course, in public would be "Governor." So, in a world where half the World's reporters are crawling around small Alaska towns where there aren't even any Starbucks, I probably know what really happened and who's doing what to who, so I'll try to post stuff here as each new story comes along.

It's good to with you all!

and of course, as an insider, we expect you to have the influence to get her to write a post for TMR and then come on and do a LiveBlog with us.

Well, anyhow, I always LOVED the librarian look...

I’m looking forward to the vast amount of information that you bring (I’ve already learned tons from you).

Thanks for coming by. I think you’ll find it a great place to be (as long as we can keep Aceintx and redplate special AKA speciallist under control).

or "seminar caller" as Rush says? He was on at 12:28 EST right before the 1/2 hour break. Jason blammed him pretty well.

Glad to see you here.
When you get a minute, you should re-post your Alaska 101 for the guys here. A few of them don't do RS anymore.

So, insider, why Charlie Gibson first? Enquiring minds want to know.

probably the one she felt the most comfortable with or who offered them the best scheduling. Understand, she's accustomed to a media that hates her just as much and which is just as smart-assed as anything on the National stage. The major outlets here, KTUU-TV (NBC), the PBS network, the Anchorage Daily News (McClatchy), and Juneau Empire (Morris Communications) virulently hate all things Republican. The reporters here can ask a leading question or a question that is half testimony assuming facts not in evidence just as well as those in the DC Press Corp - you don't have to be real smart to do it.. Her big problem with any of them won't be knowledge of the subject, it will be deconstructing a question so that it can actually be answered without looking like a raging b**ch, which is exactly how they'll characterize her if she gets in their face. She is not a shrinking violet and in private her language can be quite "colorful," like most people here. The fear would be that they'd start the same stuff with her about a bad temper and sharp tongue that they've tried with McCain from time to time.

sitting down with Gibson. They are already talking about what softball questions he will ask.
It's funny to watch. Yet again, I think they are setting the bar low, so he will well exceed it.
I don't see Gibson bringing out the raging b**ch in her. He doesn't in me, and I'm kind of like her. No nonsesnse and all that stuff. Now, Wolf Blitzer, I'd rage away at that pr*ck.

I watched a portion of the CNBC interview she did the week before the announcement. Honestly, I couldn't keep up with her. She knows her stuff when it comes to energy. So, as far as I am concerned, she doesn't have to know squat about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

I really can't stand these 500 errors and abysmal loading times anymore, though I don't necessarily place the blame on anyone over at RS. I do hope that they are able to fix the problems soon, but until they do, I think I'm going to spend most of my time over here.

From a kindred spirit - not ready to throw in the towel just yet, but I'll definitely give it a rest.

Hey, achance -- how's about we send a hurricane up your way?

we get what would pass for one anywhere else every couple of weeks this time of year out on the coast. Rarely get winds more than 50-60 mph here; rattles the windows and wears the lines on the boat. Once in awhile have to put the plywood on the windward windows and make sure there's gas in the generator.

I wanted to get back to you but getting on the site proved impossible before the whole thread faded into the past. Many here won't know what we're talking about, and I hate to use the word nuanced, but I should have been more nuanced.

I probably would have made the same choice that your parents and apparently you made: I wouldn't evacuate, and if that proved to be even a fatally wrong decision, I wouldn't consider myself a victim. It simply would be the consequence of an informed and prepared choice that I made. That was the part of the discussion that was missed.

I just really have no use for anyone who allows themselves to become a victim and crys for help when something entirely foreseeable occurs. A person who has a plan, is prepared, and makes a choice is not a victim. Here the danger is more tsunamis than the equinoctal storms, not much warning for tsunamis. I have a plan for tsunamis and if it doesn't work, it's my fault for being here; I do have a choice.

I also have found Redstate almost opaque beyond recovery. How did they manage to make a popular site so unapproachable? I'm going to propel your observations from working with Sarah Palin an inch or two forward by repeating them on my humble site.

Welcome aboard this site as a refugee from a leaky Titanic!
