AM I the only one who's noticed the silence? Mere months ago, left-wing bloggers and demonstrators were wailing Support our troops, bring them home! seven days a week. Now their presidential candidate has announced that he won't bring all those troops home, but will simply transfer combat forces from Iraq to Afghanistan - expanding that war. (He's discussed possibly invading Pakistan, too.)
And the left's quiet as a graveyard at midnight.

Peters points-out the obvious - brilliantly, as usual.
The folly of consumption taxes.
Look, all taxes suck. None of us like paying them (no, not even liberals - though they don't mind at all that other people pay them) and there really are no "fair" ways to extract taxes. You're either going to tax income (which, without a doubt. punishes those who work harder) or consumption (which, as I will point out presently, has unintended consequences as well) - it's only a matter of which method you use sucking less than that other.
We clear so far? Good. Read on...
Behold, the future of our Obamassiah-led government!
Just have a look for yourselves...

Have I mentioned that we are so totally freaking screwed?

That is all!
Convenient outrage.
I've often noticed, and remarked, that so-called liberals tend to get their frilly pink panties in a bunch whenever they percieve a Republican has committed some grave sin against the sacred Constitution - and have similarly noted that they conveniently fall rather silent whenever a Democrat craps on self-same sacred text.
So, I cannot wait for my local legions of Constitutional Defenders to go absolutely ballistic now that one of their own has just decided he doesn't need to follow long-standing Constitutionally defined rules for the appointment of judges in the Commonwealth.
The oldest new idea in history.
With gas topping $4 per gallon, people are wondering what can be done to bring the prices down. And of course, in step our CongressCritters with a brilliant idea - let's tax the "windfall" profits of Big OilTM!
With gasoline prices topping $4 a gallon, Senate Democrats want the government to grab some of the billions of dollars in profits being taken in by the major oil companies.
Well, that's certainly a new idea!
Ah, Massachusetts... [UPDATED]
Update: Marzilli announced today that he will not run for re-election.
Another day, another self-described ultra-liberal finds himself in trouble with the law because of, ahem, inappropriate constituent service.
State Senator J. James Marzilli Jr., arraigned yesterday on charges that he tried to grope a woman and harass another on busy streets in downtown Lowell, faces further investigation as more women came forward with accusations of inappropriate sexual contact.
Of course it should be a given in Massachusetts, but I find it interesting that the Globe waits until the 6th graph to inform us that Sen. Marzilli is a Democrat - who happens to represent one of the beautiful people burgs of Arlington, by the way.
Oh, please read on... it gets better!
Just, wow.
Jim Ogonowski was the near-unanimous choice among GOP'ers both in Massachusetts and nationally to take-on Sen. Jean Francios Kerry (D-Windsurfing) this year. He was, as of the most recent poll, well ahead of Jeff Beatty (his erstwhile primary challenger - a little-known political neophyte) - and had already produced at least one rather snappy advertisement for the general election season.
All Ogonowski needed to do was get on the ballot for the September primary.
But here's the thing.
You know, this poll would have been big news...
... if Gov. Deval Patrick (MA) were a Republican.
56% disapprove? In Massachusetts?????
Could there be hope for us yet?
Together We CAN!!! ... have the worst approval ratings in history!
It's not right to wish bad things upon people.
But Scott McClellan seriously tests me on this score.
Having already written on this subject here, I will only repost below the fold as it's still quite relevant.
I'm not a particularly huge fan of Ann Coulter...
... but I really think she hits it out of the park with her latest column. The whole thing is spot-on, but here's the money quote for me...
But in reality, when talking to a lunatic without having first bombed him into submission, the only possible result is appeasement. Any talk with Hitler, or a McHitler like Ahmadinejad, that does not include handing over Czechoslovakia or Israel, like a game show parting gift, is going to be a relatively brief chat.
