Washington Times Gets Pwned

Published

on

The Washington Times has apparently decided that Dale Robertson is a credible spokesman for the Tea Party movement. The cynic in me hopes, for the Times‘ sake, that they are merely using Robertson as a scourge on the legitimate Tea Partiers.

The Times could have gotten some credit for reaching out to the growing Tea Party movement, if only the paper had done its research. Or any research.  Or if one of the grizzled pencils toiling diligently in the layers of scrupulous fact-checkers and editing-editors-who-edit had typed “Dale Robertson Tea Party” into a search box somewhere.

Because you see, the fatuous Dale Robertson is a well-known opportunity fraud, a fellow who likes to exaggerate his own accomplishments.  In that he often fails, not because his statements are false, but more typically because they are vacuous.  The guy thinks he’s smarter than he is.

He’s also a burgeoning racialist who has been asked not be involved with the Tea Party movement. Over and over again.  We thought he had the idea.

And yet, who can deny that Mr. Robertson is the “founder” of teaparty.org?  Pardon my underwhelmed response.  To be “founder” of a URL means one registered the name.  That has nothing at all to do with protesting governmental expansion, and everything to do with being a domain squatter and opportunity fraud.

The Tea Party movement began in  February, 2009 in response to the bank bailouts, car maker takeovers, and most especially the Porkulus.  It may actually have been developing even before the 2008 elections, but  it got its name from Rick Santelli’s famed rant on CNBC, .The name may have been used prior to that.  If Robertson was the first, he was doing it all alone. That’s not a movement, that’s a random act of futility.

The Tea Party movement also recognizes no founder, no leader. Each local chapter or group (and there is not even a regular term for them, other than “Tea Party”) has one or more leaders, usually the people who decided to do something. And it has come to be understood in the movement that we want it this way.

But Mr. Robertson holds himself out as the founder and leader of the movement.

And that is ironically the surest way to tell Mr. Robertson is a fake, and the Washington Times too credulous by half.

Dale Robertson registered teaparty.org in September, 2004, somewhat prior to the movement starting. He owns 392 domain names.

Well said! We have thriving Tea Parties here in Houston and Mr. Robertson is not a leader of any of them – as you've said, he's been asked to take his racism and stay away. He is an accomplished domain squatter and knows how to keep his name in the news – last I heard, he was one of the 8 people at the local "Coffee Party" kickoff. Regarding the Washington Times, I think they were lazy/duped rather than seeking to defame legitimate Tea Party's by quoting him as a source. If anyone really wants to know what is going on here in the 4th largest US city, try <a href="http://www.houstontps.org” target=”_blank”>www.houstontps.org or He is a demonstrated media

Thank you for the kind words on Houston TPS – we try, and then frauds show up time and again (a la Michael Myers) and we just sigh "What fresh hell is this?"
